Yeah, It's a LIttle Odd

But you have to admit.

It's a pretty winter perch.

Bangor's New Year's Eve Ball

Despite disparaging news account out of State, Bangor's New Year's Even Ball is NOT a beach ball wrapped in Christmas lights and trailing a long orange extension cord after it gets tossed for the roof...

That was the first year.

Now it's one of those big exercise balls wrapped in Christmas lights and trailing a long orange extension cord after it gets tossed from the roof...

One year it was tossed by Governor Baldacci who unfortunately maintained his footing.

This New Years Eve Vicious Rumor brought to you by the Indoor New Years Eve Revelers here at The Thing of the Moment.

(Besides, if Governor Baldacci were to show up again it would be out of spirits to be screaming JUMP while everyone else was counting down.)

Use a Condom, Every Time

Even if just having sex.

This Christmas message brought to you by the Condom Animal Makers here at The Thing of the Moment.

(This post dedicated to the female friend (who remains anonymous but will instantly recognize herself) who once expressed dismay at the waste of having to purchase an ENTIRE package of 6 condoms with a 2 year expiration date.)

Twas the Night Before Christmas at the Bates Motel

Actually, far darker and more sinister, it's the Night Before Christmas at the Home of The Thing of the Moment.

As I mention at Facebook, I'm preparing for my Christmas tradition of waking up, weeping, cold, frightened and alone in my unheated apartment, praying for the light so I can get up for my usual Christmas breakfast of a cigarette and a glass of ice water.

Hee...I slay myself.

A very The Thing of the Moment hello to the very thorough, archive diving, post clicking, new Gentle Viewer from Verizon in Upper Washington State. (I know, I have no idea what a 'very The Thing of the Moment hello' is either.)

Christmas 1958

Take some very patient and tolerant friends, an independently wealthy child, an uncontainable dog, a white Christmas tree...

And I'd say you damned near have it all.

The Thing of the Moment on this the Occasion of it's 4th Birthday

Appropriately enough without a photo.

The Thing of the Moment was started 4 years ago this evening as a way to show off some Christmas photos for my family and, like a few other online projects, just to see how it worked.

As a way to show images, it worked as expected.

As a way to make new friends, see old friends, meet and learn from some of the most talented photographers, bloggers, and enthusiasts of topics covered here, from all over the world, it has far exceeded expectations.

The Thing of the Moment would be nothing but a moment passed if not for you, Gentle Viewers.

I've enjoyed, far more than you can imagine, your comments, kind words, unkind words, support, inspiration, and challenges.

I humbly thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Kids

One minute they are asking fake jewlery and make up for Christmas.

Then cell phones and money...

Then they are sending you Instant Messages asking if you can teach them how to post videos to YouTube.

"No, kkirlin, I've never heard of YouTube."

kkirlin: 11 going on 27.

Your lowly and humble photographic servant Is a Lot of Things

But a brilliant self portraitist is NOT one of them.

For Gentle Viewers and Commentors who are thinking of adding to the list in the comment section,

BE NICE! :)

(Two posts in a ROW about ME?! Remember when they were about Obama??)

jkirlin, hand model, BlackBerry Spokesmodel.

I know I was supposed to bring the economy to its knees by not shopping any more but I didn't have a Smart Phone yet. Now that I do, the World Economy is further screwed. Sell your stocks on the Asian markets tonight kiddos because it's going to be rat bastard ugly in the morning! You can have your iPhones and yer Touch Screens but I wanted a challenge. I wanted keys the size of commas and look at those fingers! I hit 7 keys at a time. And the damned thing STILL works. This was a little birthday present to myself. How old am I? Old enough so that below is the last phone I bought as a birthday present for myself.

Posted for Moody Monday: Old and Decrepit.

And Happy 66th birthday to Moody Monday Founder, Greg Tee!

This series of lame excuses brought you by your lowly and humble photographic servant who KNOWS he has only posted crap lately and KNOWS some Gentle Viewers are MORE demanding than others (AND NAME CALLING!)

Until it's back on track in a couple of weeks I *AM* cleaning up my flickr so you can go over there now without banging your head or tripping over stuff although it still need to be cleaned up a little more.

So go look at them..or to Thing Gallery if you haven't been in a while...

Or better yet..go look at the IN-CRED-UBBLE photographers and photographees on the constantly updating blogroll.

Tell them Slim sent ya, just to confuse them.
