'When Old and New Media Meet' or 'The Blind Leading the Blind'. A Cautionary Tale in 10 Posts.

This is Melissa Monti, a reporter for the local Fox/ABC affiliate in Bangor. She must have drawn the short straw because she was assigned to do a story on the deck of the Thomas Hill Standpipe (See below) which was open for it's spring tour.

It was FREEZING up there and she politely asked if she could film me and ask me some questions. I, of course, said no but felt silly and apologetic about it because I'm always hounding people and I hate when I'm told no. So I offer her a nice local insider tip. From this deck, you can see Mount Katahdin, the highest mountain in Maine, about 75 miles to the North.

She quickly found some sane, non-reclusive, helpful interviewees

The Happy Interviewees and Intrepid Reporter

"...Mount Katahdin is visible from here...."

This is her shot of it....

And here is mine. There's only one problem...

It's not Mt Katahdin.

Here is an imageof the REAL Mt Katahdin from Flickr

It was Bald Bluff Mountain in Amherst. Just like the sign says. Possibly over 50 miles from Mt Katahdin.

UPDATE: Gentle Viewer Mark Ward correctly identfied the Mystery Mountain as PASSADUMKEAG Mountain which was confirmed through Google and MSN Maps despite what I and that sign says. So I've misidentified it TWICE! I am soooooooooooooooo lucky I didn't go on TV. Although more people have seen it on here now than on that little news clip. :)

But without knowing it, she got even for this is your lowly, humble photographic servant.

If I had AGREED to be filmed then I would have been the dumbass telling everyone it was Mt Katahdin. As it was, Melissa Monti was simply misinformed by the dumbass. Heh heh

Godspeed, Melissa Monti. Should we ever meet again let's just keep this to ourselves.
