I Am So Not Telling You Where This Gas Station Is

You understand.

  1. After doing some research, historical gas price charts suggest that the pump has not been used since late 1973 or early 1974. That's 34 years ago!!! For the young ones out there, the OPEC oil embargo of Oct 1973 was when prices really began to rise. I still remember when I first started driving that prices were 29 cents / gallon!!!

The real question, jkirlin, is where did you find a place where they had such an antique gas pump that had not been torn down! Or is it a 'brown field Super cleanup spot' that no one wants to deal with?

  2. tom: I SAID I'm not telling.

AND they clean your windows and check your oil when you fill up.

AND they give S&H Green Stamps.

AND the Attendents wear spiffy uniforms and those little Eisenhower type hats.

And it's cash only. or you can run a tab.

  3. I found it! Rusty red Tokheim gas pump. S&H Green Stamps sign too. Plus, a sign put up by jkirlin himself - 'NO TRESPASSING - KEEP OUT'!

BTW, why is the top photo a mirror image? Also, note the sticker on the pump in the bottom photo that reads 'Economic Stabilization Program' with a '(10-73)' date at the very bottom of the sticker.

Could it be that some guy died back in 1974, did not have a will or any relatives, leaving the property ownership up in the air? BUT, he left the underground pumps all filled and you found out about it? So, you come by occasionally, and hang out inside the station with your 12 gauge shotgun at your side?

  4. I would pay extra to have someone pump gas for me. It is frightening... yes, that & airing up tires.

  5. tom: You are unstoppable. Ok, you can gas up there. But NO DOUBLE STAMPS! (I can't believe you found that image) That is why YOU, Sir, Are The Head of The Thing of the Moment's Official Research Department.

ali: I thought you'd use one of those little bike pumps.

  6. Well, this winter while airing a bike tire indoors my tube blew up. I did a quick assessment to see if I could still see, hear, speak.. ugh.. it was scary. Can't imagine a car tire tube blowing up!? That's why I close my eyes while pumping... yep.

  7. ali b.: You didn't happen to see the Leno show last week when they showed (and made fun of, of course) some random guy at a gas pump who said "I just close my eyes and pump" did you?
