Moody Monday: Melancholy

For those Gentle Viewers lucky enough to hear it, there is no more melancholy sound than a train whistle or horn on a summer night. The sound will travel for MILES.

As the Bangor Waterfront grows and is developed residentially there has been a movement to have the trains run silently through the city. I live a couple of miles from the tracks and thought it was kind of silly until I started meeting trains at 'night crossings' for photos and short movie files.

It's melacholy and quaint from a distance but right up close you'd think ALL TRAIN HELL BROKE LOOSE. Posted by Picasa

  2. "I bet there's rich folks eatin' in a fancy dining car
They're prob'ly drinkin' coffee and smokin' big cigars
Well I know I had it comin' I know I can't be free
But those people keep a movin' and that's what tortures me "

    Now what's melancholy about that?

  3. I grew up with a train running right behind our house. It was loud but you got used to it. Slept thru it at nite and raced to the TV to turn up the sound when it was approaching!

  4. The tracks are about half a mile from us... in the summer I like to get up early and watch the sun come up while I drink my coffee. I know it's time to go in when the 7:00 train goes by... I love the sound of it.
