Tourists Call These Lobster TRAPS

Mainers call them lobster POTS.

ok..Mainers really call them Tourist Coffee Tables.

This confession brought to you by The Maine Department of Tourism and their 2008 Summer Campaign: "Buy Yer Shit and Git."

Last year's campaign: "Maine, The Way Life Should Be."

Next year's campaign: "Maine, Home of the 50th Stupidest Goddamned Governor in the US, When You Get Back To Your Home State: SEND HELP!"

We'd use that campaign THIS year but we need to get bigger signs.

  1. If you hadn't mentioned lobsters, I would have thought you were referring to Michigan campaign slogans. :| In Northern Michigan we call the tourists "Fudgies" due to their love for the local fudge shops. This fascinating fact was brought to you the letter F as in Foreclosure: If you develop a serious fudge habit you could find yourself facing foreclosure.

  2. I'll have you know that my uncle probably made all those old fashioned lobster pots.

It was a an interesting experience watching him steam the rails to bend them into shape. He always worked on Sundays because he didn't fish on Sundays.

Then, times changed and the lobster industry went to pre-fab metal traps. Ligher, faster... easier on the back.

But, the new ones don't have the appeal of the old ones. You can't make an attractive coffee table, for one thing...
